Temple Stage
Overview

HARI has a beautiful RAMA TEMPLE which is located off Interstate-83 in New Cumberland, PA. The centrally heated and air-conditioned temple building is constructed on a 7-acre wooded lot on Steigerwalt Hollow Road off State Route 114 and has easy access from all major highways in and around Harrisburg, PA. HARI serves the spiritual, cultural and educational needs of HINDUS living in the greater Harrisburg area, York, Carlisle, Reading, Lancaster, Lebanon, Gettysburg, Grantville and other Central Pennsylvania communities. A Gateway Arch adorns the entrance to the temple from Steigerwalt Hollow Road.

The beautiful stone-faced, framed structure of the temple houses the deities on the main floor, which can accommodate nearly 450 devotees during major events. Worship of Ram Parivar, the presiding deities at the temple, is conducted in the altar located in the central part of the main floor. Besides the main deities, there are other deities that are worshipped, namely, Durgamatha, Saraswathi, Mahaveer, Radha-Krishna, Shiv-Parvathi and Balaji who are located in the wall niches on either side of the main deities.

The main floor is also used to conduct religious celebrations, bhajan programs, religious and other lectures, weddings, havans, Sathyanarayana pooja and katha, cultural events such as music and dance programs and other general interest community meetings. A stage is available for the use of the speakers, artists and performers. The temple has three independent mixer systems, two of them are located on the main floor and one in the basement.

Preparing for Cultural Events

Devotees and/or their children preparing for a presentation at a private event, or at an event sponsored by a non-profit organization, may rent the lower level hall at $50.00 per day or for a flat $500.00 per event. Such rentals apply to the lower level hall only — the upper level prayer hall must never be used for practicing film songs and dances.

These rentals do not include use of the kitchen area or audio systems. The lower-level audio system may be rented separately for an additional $50.00 per day. It is the responsibility of the event organizer to ensure that participating artists in their programs do not violate this policy.

Rent-Free Reservations

Paid HARI members and non-profit organizations reserving the HARI facility for religious activities without serving food will not be charged any rental fees. Rent-free reservations do not include use of the kitchen or lower level dining hall areas, and the renting party must still pay the applicable security deposit. Requests must be submitted to the President of the Executive Committee at least one month in advance. The Executive Committee, in consultation with the Temple Priest, may decline a request that fails to merit as a religious activity.

The Executive Committee may not approve rent-free requests for non-paid members and other organizations unless the President of the Executive Committee obtains express approval from the Board of Trustees in advance. Similar Board approval is required if a renting party's rent-free usage exceeds three days per calendar year. The Board may decline such requests in favor of HARI's interest.

Decorations

Paid HARI members and non-profit organizations may decorate the Temple's lower level hall for their function on the previous night, at no additional charge, provided the Temple is not in use that night. Non-paid members and other organizations must pay additional rent for similar usage.

The renting party may set up a stage area and clean the facility, but must not engage in decorations that damage walls or wall paint. The renting party is responsible for removing all decorations immediately upon conclusion of the function.

Policies

  • • General Policies: Temple hall will not be rented during HARI sponsored events or HARI School days. HARI School activities may be postponed at the discretion of the HARI School Committee for special events such as weddings or other sacred occasions. Such exceptions are made only for paid HARI members and non-profit organizations that provide at least one month advance notice to the HARI President and School Director. Postponements of HARI School activities may not exceed two days per school year unless approved by the Board of Trustees.
  • • The upper level hall is never rented and is not part of any rental agreement. It remains open to visitors and devotees during published Temple Hours, and the renting party may use the upper level hall for congregation purposes. Consumption of food and drink, including water, is strictly prohibited in the upper level hall.
  • • Rentals are confirmed strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. A rental may be booked over the phone but is considered confirmed only after the Treasurer receives the full rental charge and security deposit as described below.
  • • Additional Policies: Alcoholic beverages and non-vegetarian food are strictly prohibited within HARI premises at any time.
  • • Rent does not include supplies such as paper plates, paper cups, other paper products, or cutlery.
  • • This rental agreement does not include Priest services, which may be reserved separately with the Executive Committee. Unless booked, the Priest may not be available or present at the temple on the rental day.
  • • The renting party may use other HARI-owned equipment such as chairs, tables, kitchen supplies, bathroom supplies, and trash bags while using the facility. These items may not be taken out of HARI premises at any time. Please do not contact Executive Committee members or Board of Trustees members directly with such requests, as no one is authorized to approve them outside the normal process.
  • • The audio system may only be used if requested at the time of booking. The Executive Committee member authorizing the rental is responsible for arranging a member of the Audio/Visual Committee to assist on the day of the rental. If the renting party is found using the audio system without the aid of an authorized Audio/Visual Committee member, the renting party will be responsible for all resulting damages.

Donations & Facility Access

Aarti donations collected, including special Aarti observed at religious and other sacred occasions, must be deposited into the donation box located by the main altar. Further clarification regarding this policy may be obtained from the current Board of Trustees at their regular monthly meetings.

Non-profit organizations renting the Temple facility may accept donations from their members to cover the cost of the religious or non-religious program. However, the Temple's main entrance and other entrances/exits may not be blocked to facilitate collections. The main entrance must remain open during normal business hours, and all exits must remain blockage-free at all times to allow access during emergencies and to meet building fire-code requirements.

The Temple's upper level prayer hall is never rented and remains open to devotees for prayer during normal business hours. Devotees wishing to enter the prayer hall solely for prayer purposes may do so free of charge, even if the facility is rented for a private religious or non-religious program.

Cancellation & Liability

The renting party must give at least two weeks cancellation notice before occupancy. Any notice less than two weeks will result in forfeiture of the security deposit.

It is the responsibility of the renting party to return the facility clean — including the upper level (if used), lower level (if used), kitchen area (if used), and restrooms — and to pick up any trash or debris left outside the building by invited guests. The security deposit will be refunded only once the facility is cleaned properly and any other requirements notified by the Executive Committee at the time of rental are met.

HARI reserves the right to cancel any previously booked rental with at least two weeks notice to the renting party, provided appropriate cause is given in writing, with 100% of the rental charges and deposit refunded.

HARI will not be held liable for personal injuries or damages incurred by individuals or groups during rentals. The renting party is held liable for such injuries and damages under this agreement, and is also responsible for damages incurred to the building, HARI property, and HARI-owned equipment.

Policy Violations

Violators of any policy described herein will lose future renting privileges once the Board of Trustees declares the defaulting party a violator of the renting agreement. After a 60-day show-cause notice is given to the defaulting party, their name and address will be published in the HARI Times.
